New year, new blog

I've started this blog as a way to document my experiences and reflections as I adapt to life in Hong Kong. I’ve never really written a blog before, but now that I’m far away from home, it seems like a good way to gather my thoughts.

In June 2022 I moved from The Netherlands to Hong Kong with my husband. He got a great job opportunity and we were both excited to go on an adventure. To be honest, the last seven months have been interesting, but also quite rough from time to time. Instagram pictures and stories don’t show the difficult parts. Saying goodbye to family and friends, finding a new home for our beloved cats, getting married (for visa purposes), renovating our house in the Netherlands and finding people to rent our home…these were just a few things we had to do before we stepped on a plane on June 29 2022.

We arrived in Hong Kong during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the airport was nearly empty with staff in white suits. It was surreal. After taking two Covid tests, obtaining our luggage and visa, we were transported to a quarantine hotel where we had to stay for a week. During that week you weren’t allowed to leave your room and you had to take daily Covid tests. Despite poor internet connection, we were grateful for the opportunity to relax after the hectic months leading up to our departure.

After a week of quarantine, we spent 6 weeks in a serviced apartment while searching for a rental. We were fortunate to find a beautiful apartment with a sea view, fulfilling one of my lifelong aspirations: I always wanted a workspace overlooking the sea! Now that I am settled, I plan to continue my art career in Hong Kong and document my journey through this blog. I don’t know how I am going to establish this, but I’m going to try and figure it out. You are welcome to join me on my journey!
